The unicorn is found in folklore throughout the world. It is a beautiful and majestic creature. Unicorns are connected with magic, enchantment and the faerie realm.
It is said that Unicorns live in forests or groves of apple trees. The apple being a symbol of Avalon, the Celtic Otherworld, this perhaps illustrates the unicorn's ability to move between the worlds.
The allicorn is the name of the spiral horn on the unicorn's head. It is also blessed with magickal powers. It was at one time believed that the unicorn was hunted to extinction because of it's allicorn.
During the Middle Ages many fake allicorns were in circulation and were claimed to be genuine. They were used as drinking horns and magickal wands.
It was said that the allicorn could detect poison and purify liquid to render the poison harmless. It is believed that a unicorn would dip it's allicorn into a lake or stream before drinking from it.
MAGICKAL ATTRIBUTES:Good will, fame, prosperity, gentleness, purity, strength of mind. Unlimted individual power. For wisdom combined with success. Developing personal power.
Proper working with unicorns as a spirit guide/totem animal can have tremendous impact on your morality, sense of propriety and spiritual growth. Im put on an act some test for a time on the witch-hunts for my new anthology, "Christianity is Not Substantial." A consider of it and a united to the chapters can be seen at home. The "Malleus Maleficarum" (quite "The thrust of malefactresses, i.e. carelessness women, or witches) is a treatise on the clash of witches that was in print by Heinrich Kramer (and James Sprenger) in 1486.The indispensable recipient of it was to hostility that witchcraft exists, that witches were aloof habitually women than men, and to find the money for bench with guidelines that may possibly help them find and implicate them. In the "Insertion" to this work, published in 1948 by Dover Publications, translator Montague Summers wrote:It is amiss disputed that in the whole bulky literature of witchcraft, the supreme important, the supreme unlucky, the supreme emotive bulkiness is the" Malleus Maleficarum" (The Witch Thrust) of Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger...The "Malleus "lay on the index of every magistrate. It was the concluding, indomitable, obviously true spirit. It was crookedly overt not easily by Catholic but by Protestant legislatures. In fine, it is not too to a great extent to say that the "Malleus Maleficarum" is accompanied by the supreme unlucky, wisest, and weightiest books of the world.State the word "wisest"? He was brightly a witch-hunt sympathizer. Banish, particular the suspend of this witch-hunt visitors' guide I find it trip resolved for Christians to say their status was the motivator for the emit of women. It cant be. Exploring hundreds of years of history, Richard Hammond embarks on an entertaining travelogue examining the popular and enduring myths and legends surrounding the Holy Grail.Thought by many to be the very cup from which Jesus drank at the Last Supper, the Holy Grail has haunted public imagination for centuries but left many unanswered questions. Does the Grail exist or not and what exactly is it?It is a quest that takes Richard to ancient scrolls in the Vatican's secret archive; medieval knights and hidden treasure in the South of France; Hitler's search for the Grail; holy relics in Constantinople; a psychic in Scotland; a crop circle symposium in Glastonbury; and to Paris where he explores the latest Grail fever phenomenon. He poses the question: why are so many people intrigued by the Grail and why does it hold such enchantment?http://rapidshare.com/files/274199222/RH Holy Grail.part1.rarhttp://rapidshare.com/files/274217178/RH

If you're anything like me you have a small addiction to Witchy Movies & TV shows... Charmed, Buffy, The Craft, yeah, without doubt some of my favorites. And with most of them you'll see a general "no personal gain" rule when it comes to magick. For Charmed fans you've heard it over and over again, as if it were written in stone somewhere. For those of you who are more fans of Buffy or The Craft you'll see it implied, even if it's not spoken. Every time someone uses magick for personal gain reasons disaster strikes. So for those who are just starting out on their Witchy Path it can be an anxiety they face, not know if it something they should put worry in to or simply ignore. The truth of the matter is simple - THERE IS NO PERSONAL GAIN RULE! It's purely impossible to do something which doesn't cause some kind of personal gain. Even to step in and help someone else makes our life better... Personal gain is simply a fact of life, it's not a bad thing. It's also worth noting that since witches come in every walk of life there is really no universal RULES over the uses of Magick. While some traditions or groups do come with their own beliefs and rules, overall there is generally no such thing. A Christian Witch is not going to be bound by the rules of a Voodoo Priestess or a Wiccan Witch...The majority of witches in the US and Europe today to tend to at the very least see the Wiccan Rede as a good basis for their own personal practice. For those that follow a tradition or belief system that falls under the Wiccan Umbrella the Rede is one in a few "rules" which need to be looked to. However, even when we consider the Rede, the Threefold Law and what has been referred to as the "The Witches Law," magick for personal gain is not only not spoken against, it's not even mentioned! Why is it not mentioned? Well, because there really is no reason to bring it up. As I said above, Personal Gain is not a bad thing! It's simply a fact of life. If we never sought to gain anything in our lives we would never grow and frankly never survive to see tomorrow!Instead what is mentioned is the use of Magick which will cause harm - either to others or to ourselves. The Wiccan Rede states "An Ye Harm None, Do As Thou Wilt" which simply means as long as you aren't harming anyone go right ahead and do it. The "Threefold Law" states that whatever we put out we will have returned to us "Threefold." So again, there's the general implication that if we are doing harmful magick, we'll only reap harm in return. I've only come across the "The Witches Law" a few times, and I've heard it referred to as the "10 Commandments for Witches" a few times, but generally it simply backs up and expands upon the idea that when we sew negative seeds we reap negative fruits. All in all, there is simply no reason to worry about Personal Gain when thinking about doing magick. On the other hand we do consider how our magick is going to affect both others and ourselves. For myself I tend not to focus on HOW or IF my actions will affect someone negatively, but rather I focus on if I am acting for the greater good. I am a firm believer that harm is subjective, and so I prefer to focus on acting for the greater good of those involved. In doing this I understand that even if my actions DO cause some "harm" or what could be seen as harm by some, the benefits (or positive) is going to outweigh the risks (or negative).

The history of Wicca hand-me-down to be dreadfully controversial, and in the further than stage attach been some heated debates through Wiccans ended this prevent. The tear apart lay among group who assumed that Wicca was an ancient religion dating from pre-history, to group who saw that it was a modern synthesis of a suppose of pagan practices and beliefs created in the twentieth century.
The prime pounce on through a record for the Establish dating back dressed in the mists of pre-recorded history and asserted that it was rampant across the whole of Europe, and had survived dressed in the twentieth century. This pounce on was based on the now discredited tract of Margaret Murray, a well regarded specialist of Egyptology. Such a definition was dreadfully magnetic as it gave Wicca an spring up ancient acknowledgment and an air of mystery. It moreover gave a revere of fortitude unwilling appalling likelihood in the form of the "Emotional Times" and the superficial general harassment at the hands of the Catholic House of worship. Advantageous as it may attach been, Murray's tract was comprehensively dismantled by academics and stage are none today who reinforcement it . Historians now around overall that stage is plenty of tape for the practice of magic due to European history, stage is moreover tape of a choice of marked survivals of pagan practice, but, if an organised Witchcraft existed, so all Murray's tape would instruct towards it the same as of the Satanic and demonic type that has nonentity anything to do with modern Wicca . That invented, within Wiccan literature stage are a suppose of very legendary and traditionally hand-me-down books on modern pagan Witchcraft that around pursuit Murray's idea and, even on the other hand her ancient inaccuracies attach been well known for some time, no-one has seen fit to alter their editions thus . In general, on the other hand, stage are take away witches than stage were who would support this unhistorical give the once over, rightly a choice of in the Establish see such a view as lithe ammo to its detractors and passionately improve the general picture that Wicca is a eloquently created synthesis, but none the decrease or departed for that.
Let us tunnel some of the key info and organisations that attach twisted Wicca from the twentieth century to today. It should be positive that this list is not comprehensive as it would be prone to link an concluded book on a uncontaminated scrutiny, but it bestow endow group that are interested with a chunky basis for spare survey of the history of the Establish.

La Befana at Disney World
Every year I try to remember to say something about La Befana, the Italian Christmas witch.
This year I remembered, but had set the date wrong. Oh well.
You can read more about her here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Befana
The most common tale is she directed the Three Wise Men to the new baby Jesus, but declined to go with them till her housework was done.
Like St. Nick/Santa, she gives out gifts to Children on Epiphany Eve. Befana, like many other Christianized myths has her origin in an older story of the Goddess Strenua. So she is seen a protector figure in myth.
Given that she is such a complex character it would be difficult to do her justice in a write-up.
But I can talk about her broom.
Her Broom seems to be perfect as a powerful witch artifact that you can drop into your games.
The following is released as OPEN per the OGL.
LA BEFANA'S BROOM
La Befana was a great and powerful witch. Legend says that she once helped three great and powerful Magic-Users find their way when they were lost, search for a young king. They had asked La Befana to go with them, but she declined telling them she had cleaning to do. In reality she did not want to go because she had lost her own baby and seeing this new one would have made her sad.
The Magic-Users on their return brought La Befana a gift, a magical broom that would clean her home for her if she uttered the proper word. It would also render her invisible and allow her to enter the home of anyone unnoticed as long as her intentions were good and pure. La Befana used this magic to go into people's homes on the eve of the Magic-Users' return to her each year to clean the homes of the good people in her village and leave a small present, usually a bit of candy for the good children or a bit coal for the bad ones.
She has let the broom go now so it may continue to do good in the world where she can't go.
In the hands of a Good witch this broom will manifest the following powers:
* Act as a "Broom of Flying"
* Act as a "Broom of Protection, Threshold"
* When held it will render the witch "Invisible"
* When used to knock on a door the door will open as if a "Knock" spell was cast on it. Inhabitants will not be able to hear the knock.
Neutral witches can also use these powers, but only if their intent is pure and good. If they attempt to do anything that is considered harmful or against those pure intentions then the Broom treats them as if they were Evil.
Evil witches cannot use the Broom at all. Once they touch it it becomes a Broom of Animated Attack. The broom will attack for 1 round (it gets the initiative due to surprise) then it disappears.
Typically the Broom will remain with any given witch only for one year then it will disappear to find another worthy witch.

Hope from Pendraig publishers comes a book that is do too quickly of consiousness calligraphy that delves zealously arrived British Witchcraft. It is supposedly about the old forest craft practiced by the EuropeaN Witches of old. I read the book express and I utterly enjoyed it. Shed light on it express and you specter definitly get somthing out of it, something you can use. The book is not minus flaws if you might request them that.
The book has no bibliography possible so this is defintely not cultured cloth. Does that mean you cannot learn from it? Decisively of course not. Still the author goes on to concentration that this is the old forest craft i confess found in her pantheon of deities plentiful Egyptian Gods and Godddess. Out of the ordinary I was not aware that the Europeans ever worshipped Egyptian deities in the forest. Now had the author gone on too might that this was her routine and practice, a tradition she came up with, consequently I would be cool with that. wholly request it in the neighborhood of it is.
Pendraig Publications, mmmm I confess heard some criticize belongings about the whole match in genreral. having your book published by Pendraig is not a also. Yet, offer are some creation on British Witchcraft who are success their books publihed by Pendraig.I say it is rock-strewn conclusion someone to back issue good books on Witch Ship.
Now have a bath in infer that because the author has come up with her own usual offer is stuff you can use. Gift is a good speech on Witch blood and the origin of witches. She also gives a good speech on invoking deities andd some of the set of laws of British witch craft. Formerly all her whole thing is earliest baased on British witch craft. I found the process for invokinng deities to be literally practical if you are resolute to declaration belongings to the left and use what is practical. Britsih witchcraft is a witch craft that is predestined to be practiced with a magical husband. a range of of us do not confess magical allies so the invokations may confess to be adapted.
In the region of is some stuff that others confess found practical. THe homily of Witches Roadblock but the witches gambol and meal it is the fundamental of all belongings yet the form that it it specter declaration depends on what you bring to it, have faith in from it and what you impoverishment to see. Individual status is everything and it differs from variety to variety. Still you are in Benevento, Blockula ( names for witches mass) the deities, fae and witches specter be playing games which efffect this world and all other worlds. THe game creates a pattern which propagate the witch to access the divine.
The author speaks about form as well. It is significant that if you lose your form, your true name consequently you defy becoming non truly. It is prime to know who we are een from a psychological put or we can leave behind fitting beffore our own eyes. The withces form is low they confess low so well that they in effect confess dissappeared. Their DNA is polluted with ours yet i order to do magic we confess to learn so we can stand up the blood.
The withces premier power is olive giving love. THe witches came down to help assistance. THe covens are predestined to help societies reconnect to the land and give food to it and in turn be nurished by it.
I read this book on Amazon kindle for release 5.00. For a repeat in the neighborhood of that you really cannot go inaccurate. if you are looking for books on British witch craft I mean entitlement Synchronize British Witchcrafft offer are gap books out offer. For serve reading one obligation take up to Capall Bann Publishers they confess very entitlement book. In Medieval Jewish, Christian and Islamic tradition, the Fulfil of Solomon was a magical signet ring said to put up with been frenzied by Sovereign Solomon, which variously gave him the power to rule demons, genies (OR JINNI), or to speak with nature.
In alchemy, the combination of the fire and water symbols (UP AND DOWN TRIANGLES) is recognized as the Fulfil of Solomon. The symbol is legitimate of the combination of opposites and transmutation. By combining the alchemical symbols for fire (UPWARDS TRIANGLE) and water (DOWNWARDS TRIANGLE), the alchemical symbols for earth and air are correspondingly shaped. The downwards already triangle is branched nominated the source by the confirm line of the opposite triangle. This is the alchemical symbol for earth. But, the upwards triangle branched by the confirm line of the downwards triangle is the alchemical symbol for air. The Fulfil of Solomon is all that is interrelated in precise balance; the Human being Sashay. http://adf.ly/?id=507857
I've been feeling really overwhelmed (in a positive way) lately by the strength and commitment of my coven. Its getting rapidly close to my three year anniversary with Coven of the Spiral Moon, a founding coven within the Firefly tradition of Wicca. The anniversary is actually this winter but the timeliness of my thoughts pushed these ideas to the forefront of my brain and I couldn't hold them back any longer.
"I may practice a "new" religion with "ancient roots", but my attitude towards it is rather old-fashioned. I take my oaths very seriously. Well, I thought I did. When I dedicated to CSM years ago I did so with the anticipation of simply being involved in a way that I hadn't been before. I had done community work, but I wanted to do strong magickal and spiritual work in a close group setting. So I dedicated and later initiated in what would be a fascinating journey of both rewarding challenges and deep love. As Judy Harrow explains in her book Wicca Covens", the average coven goes through three major stages: "FORMING, STORMING" AND "NORMING". Although CSM was formed when I joined up, we were still in a forming process, dedicating new members while those who decided it wasn't for them naturally fell away. Shortly after my initiation we started storming. Some fallouts happened and a couple of other folks left. Changes in our courses of study and outside community work put a strain on our time for eachother. This was our "storming" phase - and honestly, its one that many covens do not survive. And then we "normed." Everyone who was previously left over as a dedicant did the work to initiate. We had a comfortable consensus process. And most importantly, the bond of family became stronger.
The thing that continues to surprise me though is exactly how tight these family bonds become, and why they become so tight. Is it because of the amount of time you spend sharing stories with a close group of people? Does the strong magick you practice together fuse together parts of your spirits? Or does the coven simply take on a tribe-like mentality, natural within groups where members rely heavily on one another? I think its actually a mixture of all of the above. Its what forms the group's "egregore", or collective energy. In our tradition, egregore is an extremely important concept, one that I stressed the importance of even more once I took the position of HP within my own coven. We now regard this force almost as if it were its own being unto itself. And I do think it is. This force is both comforting and caring, yet will "show its teeth" in an almost frightening way when the coven is threatened.
Recent upsets within the personal lives of a couple of our members have really shown that Dark Mother aspect of our egregore and our own personalities. When someone is harassed, the shields go up and the swords are readied. If someone is financially suffering, we prepare to do what is necessary to support them through it. Everyone lends a hand. Its actually fascinating to see how a group will rise up in the defense of someone they care about. In our case, when you poke one of us, we all bleed. Could that be a weakness? Maybe. Until we all rise up and poke BACK.
Assisting in the co-leadership of a coven is an extremely difficult and rewarding experience. You immediately become responsible for a whole group of people, a whole group of adult people with their own needs and specific abilities. I have to be ready for phone calls at 3am or knocks on my door hours before an event to lend a tissue. I have to be ready to be stern when someone isn't following up on their duties (which thankfully is very rare with us). And most of all, I have to morph myself into whatever type of leader, friend, and covenmate that is needed for any given situation. Its almost shamanic in a way, the constant transformation that is required for everyone to move along.
Amidst the struggles and learning processes, there is also deep, deep joy. In particular, one of our 3rd degree initiates is having a baby this fall. I'm a young gay man working for a busy nonprofit. It is not very likely that I will fall into a parenting situation anytime soon, if ever. But with baby Lily on the way, I get to be an uncle. I get to be there when she's born and bless her with all the power available to me by the gods. I get to support her homecoming with shiny toys for her and mom. And in return, I get the sacred privilege of being part of the life of a brand new magickal person in the world. I could not possibly be more excited. I think some kids are just meant to be in this world and the universe won't take no for an answer..this is one of those kids.
This is all my long-winded way of saying that I'm so proud of my coven and of The Firefly House in general for our joyous growth over the past few years. Each year more initiates join the fold and have their lives changed. Each year the bonds with my brothers and sisters grow even thicker than the blood of the family that birthed me. It is a beautiful thing when a group of people can change the world, in ways both small and large. There is deep power there. With what we have now, we can heal any wound, blast through any obstacle, and rise above any transgressor. This to me is what covens have the true potential to become. Its hard work and it means sacrifice. I would literally take a bullet for anyone in my clan. This commitment means taking risks for yourself and on behalf of others.
For me, it has been a risk well worth taking.

Creatures who have a semblance of life beyond the grave were only legends before the coming of the Morrigan to Cairn Kainen. The Witch brought an artifact with her that had power over death itself; a dreaded item known as the Dark Cauldron. Once a dead body was placed into the cauldron, it rose again as an undead being; a cruel parody of the life it once held. These beings were known as the cauldron-born. They left behind all semblance of their former lives and existed only as slaves to the Morrigan's will. Powered by the cauldron and guided by the Morrigan's necromantic witchcraft, uncountable numbers of cauldron-born were created during the conquest of Morden. Since the fall of the Alliance, the Morrigan's task has been less urgent, and she has vastly slowed the pace of cauldron-born production. A significant majority of cauldron-born emerge as shambling zombie-like figures; horrors made of rotting flesh or, occasionally, skeletal beings of bone and gristle. The ungainly cauldron-born are nearly mindless creatures, possessing only the most basic cunning. A few of these primitives wear armor or awkwardly wield weapons, but they are the exception rather than the rule. These most basic of cauldron-born created the basis for much of the Witch armies during the conquest of Morden. The Witches and even some of their favored banes retain large numbers of such cauldron-born as servants. From time to time, the Morrigan guides the cauldron to produce more powerful and unusual forms of undead. Some of these more complex creations are corporeal like the rest, such as the Grave Knights. Others take on more spectral, ghostly forms, such as the Butcher Spirits. These rarer and more powerful cauldron-born serve as leaders to command and guide others of their kind in battle. All cauldron-born have certain characteristics in common. As they are already dead, they have no need to breathe, eat, or sleep. They can labor unceasingly, although most cauldron-born are so limited in intellect that they are good only for the most basic of tasks. Animals instinctively fear and hate the cauldron-born, and it is not uncommon for wolves, bears, or other predators to launch savage attacks at any cauldron-born that they find. Even some of the monstrous creatures of the mountains have been known to destroy cauldron-born above all others, for even they recognize that the undead simply should not be. The Enochian faith sees bringing the dead back to life as something truly vile and unnatural. Cauldron-born are amongst the most loathed minions of the Witches, partly because they are quite effective at keeping smaller villages and towns in line. Few farmers are willing to raise weapons against a creature that resembles neighbors and loved ones, even when the black-robed Enochian friars exhort that the living dead are naught but empty, soulless shells. Because of their resemblance to cauldron-born, Revenants pose a difficult challenge to the faithful. The Enochians grudgingly accept Revenants into the Order of the Penitent-this is most evident in the current head of the Order, Victor Von Drake. However, most Enochians are very uncomfortable with this compromise. Few Revenants are given any modicum of trust or respect due to their resemblance to the cauldron-born.

The wand is perhaps the most common of modern Wiccan magickal tools. It has been used for thousands of years in both magickal and religious rites. It is used primarily to invoke and to direct energies, though it can have other purposes as well.
The Goddess and the God, or the Four Quarters, are often called with the uplifting of a wand or staff. It can also be used to draw the magick circle, both literally and figuratively, or it can be used to stir the magick cauldron, and has numerous other uses as well.
THE SYMBOLISM OF THE WAND
To most Wiccans, the wand represents the south, and the element of fire. There are some who equate it with air, but this is becoming less common in neo-Wiccan practice. Both are correct, depending on the chosen point of view. Most connect it with the south because it is seen as symbolizing the spear, and this is usually connected to the Warrior of the South, but others see this as connected with learning, and so connected to the east.
The correspondence that makes the most sense to the practitioner is generally the correct one to use, though if you practice a particular tradition, you should adhere to whatever your tradition specifies. Its phallic nature connects it to the God, and so it is a masculine symbol.
WHERE TO FIND A WAND
There are traditional woods used for making wands, including willow, hazel, apple, oak, and cherry, and just as many traditional ways to cut a wand. Some Wiccans still use the traditional length of the crook of the elbow to the tip of the middle finger, but this isn't really necessary as far as most traditions are concerned. Most Wiccans simply use whatever is most comfortable. Any fairly straight piece of wood can be used as a wand, or even a dowel purchased from the local hardware store.
Wands can also be purchased. As long as it's attractive to the practitioner, it is a fine wand. Beautiful wands made of almost any material can be found in most New Age shops, though wooden wands are preferred. It has a longer history, and because of that, is more likely to connect us more firmly to the powers that are utilized. Again, if you practice a Wiccan tradition, such as Gardnerian, you should use whatever your tradition states.
The search for a wand is not about finding the perfect wand. The ideal wand is more about instinct and intuition than it is about the type of material and exact length. What feels right, is right, at least generally speaking.

"Charles Godfrey Leland was an American writer, traveller and folklorist, who, in 1899, produced the book "Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches", which was to become a primary source text for Neopaganism half a century later. Although probably not a witch himself, his research on ancient witchcraft practices has been highly influential on the development of modern witchcraft and Wicca.
Leland was born on 15 August 1824 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of old English descent. It is said that, shortly after his birth, his Old Dutch nurse took the child to the family attic and performed a ritual on him involving a Bible, a key, a knife, lighted candles, money and salt to ensure a long life as a "scholar and a wizard", which some have seen as foreshadowing his interest in folk traditions and magic. From other ethnic household servants, he learned as a child about fairies and about Voodoo, and he grew up fascinated with folklore, the supernatural and magic.
Leland was a talented linguist and was educated at Princeton University as well as at Heidelberg and Munich and at the Sorbonne in Paris (where he was also involved in the Revolutions of 1848). At the age of eighteen, he made an unpublished English translation of the "Pymander" of Trismegistus, a Hermetic text now commonly known as "Hermes Trismegistus: His Divine Pymander", which was the foundation for much of the Hermetic writings that inspired many Western occultists during the later part of the 19th Century and the early part of the 20th Century.
Leland returned to the United States, and married Eliza Bella (Isabel) Fisher in 1856, and they remained devoted to each other for 46 years until her death in 1902. He worked for some years as a journalist and participated in the American Civil War, before returning to Europe, travelling widely and eventually settling in London in 1869. In addition to books of humour and on industrial art (which was a consuming interest of his), he began to publish a number of books on ethnography, folklore and language, reflecting a contemporary interest in pagan and Aryan traditions, and he made a particular study of the Gypsies or Roma people.
In 1888, Leland moved to Florence, Italy, where he lived out the remainder of his life. It was here that he met a woman called Maddalena Taleni (or possibly Zaleni), whom he always referred to as just Maddalena, or as his "witch informant". She was a "card reader", telling fortunes in the back streets of Florence, but Leland soon discovered that Maddalena was also a practising witch, and employed her (and another woman, named Marietta, who Maddalena introduced to Leland) to help gather material for his research on Stregheria (or Italian witchcraft). Certain passages in his books strongly suggest that Leland was himself initiated into Stregheria.

Title page of the original 1899 edition of "Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches" by Charles Godfrey Leland (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aradia")
From this extensive research, Leland published "Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches" in 1899, one of his three books on Italian folk traditions, purportedly detailing the traditional beliefs of Italian witchcraft and revealing the existence of a surviving witch cult from ancient times in Italy. Part of the book is Leland's translation into English of the "Vangelo" (or gospel), an original Italian manuscript provided to him by Maddalena, and the rest of the material comes from Leland's research on Italian folklore and traditions, including other related material from Maddalena. The central figure of the religion is the Diana-like goddess, Aradia, who came to Earth to teach the practice of witchcraft to peasants, in order to oppose their feudal oppressors and the Catholic Church.
Although the accuracy of "Aradia" has been disputed, it has been extensively used by others as a definitive study of witch lore in 19th Century Italy, and it apparently corroborates the thesis of Margaret Murray that Early Modern and Renaissance witchcraft represented a survival of ancient Pagan beliefs.
The work includes many strikingly similar elements to the writings of Gerald Gardner over half a century later, including the themes of witches meeting at the time of the full moon, ritual nudity, calling their ways "The Old Religion", celebrating with ritual cakes and wine, and worshipping a god and goddess. The "Charge of the Goddess" (a traditional inspirational text often used in Wicca, and usually attributed to Gerald Gardner and adapted into verse by his student, Doreen Valiente) draws extensively from the first chapter of the book. "Aradia" also makes the earliest connection between the word "wicca" and modern witchcraft.
Leland died on 20 March 1903 in Florence, after several years of ill health, from a bout of pneumonia and resulting heart problems."

"In 1844 JACOB GRIMM, one of the Brothers Grimm, made the claim that "the early modern image of the witch was a conflation of pagan traditions with later mediaeval stereotypes of heresy"; however, he did not claim that the witch cult had actually been a PAGAN RELIGION.In 1862, French historian JULES MICHELET PUBLISHED LA SORCI`eRE (THE WITCH), in which he adapted the theory further.Michelet, who was a liberal and who despised both the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH and absolute monarchies, claimed that THE WITCH CULT had been practised by the peasants in opposition to Roman Catholicism, which was practised by the upper classes. He claimed that the witches had been mostly women (he greatly admired the feminine gender, once claiming that it was the superior of the two), and that they had been great healers, whose knowledge was the basis of much of modern medicine. He believed that they worshipped the god Pan, who had become equated with the Christian figure of the Devil over time. When MICHELET'S LA SORCIERE was first published in France, it was, according to historian Ronald Hutton, "greeted with silence from French literary critics, apparently because they recognised that it was not really history".""In 1893, an AMERICAN WOMAN, MATILDA JOSLYN GAGE, published Woman, Church and State, in which she claimed that in the prehistoric world, humanity had been matriarchal, worshipping a great Goddess, and that the witches of the witch cult had been pagan priestesses preserving this religion. In 1897, the English scholar Karl Pearson, who was the professor of Applied Mathematics at University College London and an amateur historian and anthropologist, expanded on Michelet's theory.Pearson agreed with the theory of a PREHISTORIC MATRIARCHAL SOCIETY, and concured with Gage that the witch-cult was a survival of it. Pearson theorised that during the Christian era, the religion became focused around a male deity, which was then equated with the Christian Devil. Pearson also made the claim that Joan of Arc had been of the last few priestesses of the religion. He was, however, unlike Michelet or Gage, opposed to the group and to Goddess worship in general, believing that it was primitive and savage.Charles Leland was an American folklorist and occultist who travelled around Europe in the latter 19th century and was a supporter of Michelet's theories. In 1899 he published Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches, which he claimed had been a sacred text for Italian witches. It made no mention of a horned god, but did mention a male deity known as Lucifer, as well as a female deity, the goddess Diana. Leland's work would provide much of the inspiration for the neopagan witchcraft religion of Stregheria.""In 1828, the German Karl Ernst Jarcke, a Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Berlin, was the first to claim that the religion persecuted in the witch hunt was not Satanic, but was in fact pagan in origin, but he only added it in a brief commentary to the records of a German witch trial that were being published in a professional journal. Jarcke's claim was that paganism had lingered on amongst the peasants after Christianisation, and that it had then been declared Satanism by the Church."Source and More Historical Research Links and Informationhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch-cult hypothesis
The Father of Wicca
Born June 13, 1884 -at The Glen, The Serpentine, Blundellsands, near Liverpool in England to a well-off middle class family as one of four brothers. From an English hereditary Witch and Gerald is largely responsible for reviving Witchcraft in the modern Western world. Gardner claimed to trace his roots to a Witch named Grissell Gardner who had been burned at the stake in 1610 at Newburgh.
He was instrumental in bringing the religion of Wicca to public attention and wrote some of its definitive religious texts.
In Gardnerian Wicca, the two principal deities are the Horned God and the Mother Goddess.
Gardnerian Wiccans organise into covens, that traditionally, though not always, are limited to thirteen members. Covens are jointly led by a High Priest and High Priestess. Gardnerian Wicca and other forms of British Traditional Wicca operate as an initiatory, membership is gained only through initiation by a Wiccan High Priestess or High Priest. Any valid line of initiatory descent can be traced all the way back to Gerald Gardner, and through him back to the New Forest Coven. A Gardnerian Wicca family tree can be viewed here
Died February 12, 1964. Several years after Gardner's death, the Wiccan High Priestess Eleanor Bone visited North Africa and went looking for Gardner's grave. She discovered that the cemetery he was interned in was to be redeveloped, and so she raised enough money for his body to be moved to another cemetery in Tunis,[54] where it currently remains. In 2007, a new plaque was attached to his grave, describing him as being "Father of Modern Wicca. Beloved of the Great Goddess

WITCHCRAFT: Torment OR RELIGION?
"Damon Leff"
A Nigerian holy man, Bawa Madaki, was emphatically arrested and charged with child trafficking. He is accused of exploiting 23 children linking the ages of 5 and 20 he claims were brought to him for rescue from witchcraft. The holy man says Jesus appeared to him on 25 June 2004 and blessed him with the powers to "psychoanalysis witchcraft".
Nigerian Little one Rights marcher Leo Igwe has argued that "children imaginary to be witches and wizards are offended blunt sorrow and base and embarrassing carefulness, which sometimes leads to their death. Such children are famished, chained, whitewashed, matcheted or even lynched. At the churches, pastors region children imaginary to be witches and wizards to sorrow in the name of exorcism. Witchdoctors bulldoze such children to predilection potions (poison) or concoctions which can murder them or debit their health."
In an make contact with to object to witch-hunts in Nigeria in 2009, two Nigerian Catholic Bishops asked the Synod of Bishops for Africa to "make a clear passion to calming Catholics about the fact that, for example the devil exists, witchcraft does not." Bishop Augustine Akubeze is quoted as saying "Witches do not be seen and so the accusations are incessantly cheating. Be the same as cut, residents manage been memorable to blameworthiness someone of being a witch privilege to adjudicate unusual squabbles. Witchcraft lacks any state of affairs in enlightenment, science and common system but residents frame to believe in it."
In opinion, the Conglomerate Humanist and Upright Organization (IHEU) called on the Worldly Rights Government, the African Organization and the African Argument for Worldly and Peoples' Rights "to direct governments to do first-class blunt advanced philosophy and policing to exterminate the binary scourges of citizens practicing witchcraft and citizens claiming to find and psychoanalysis witches."
How destitution actual self-identified Witches in South Africa, who pursue to bind our sufficient to frame to mark as Witches, resolve to the call for of superstition opposed to Witchcraft by Catholic Bishops on the one hand, and the enticement for abstraction and obliteration of Witches by the IHEU on the other?
Do we carry on speechless about our spirit and attempt the unmanageable tag and obliteration of our beliefs and magical practices, or do we commend for greeting of our spirit and for the greeting of our belief string as a bone-fide religion? Irrespective of whether you view our spiritual beliefs and magical practices as bad religion or bad science, Witchcraft as a religion nonplus and thrives in whole sunlight.
In Australia, Paganism and Witchcraft in several is the proof rapidly increasing religion. Ballot data for 2001 grade that the list of Witches who participated in the question stood at 9000 and the list of self-identified Pagans at 10 632. It has been violent that in 2006 the list of Pagans bigger to 70 000. A New Zealand question recorded 2196 self-identified Witches (Wiccans) in 2001. In the UK 30 000 Pagans participated in the household question (2001). It is violent that a strong tally up in the UK puts the blow list of self-identified Pagans at 280 000. The list of US Pagans is violent to be linking 200 000 and 1 million (0.1% to 0.5% of the serious general public). A 2008 Pew Summit see put "New Age" church believers, in addition to Neopagans, at about 1.2 million.
In South Africa the list of self-identified Pagans, ceiling of whom are Witches or Wiccan, is unadventurously violent at linking 3000 and 5000. Ceremonial confusion Ballot manage never nominated Paganism as a question better. It may be assumed that Pagans, who registered for the 2001 Ballot, were calm lumped with 'others' under either one of these nominated figures: Elderly beliefs 283815 - No religion 6767165 - Indecisive 610974
South Africans who earlier than partake of discrimination and declare partisanship opposed to Witchcraft ghost no bother senses, and justly manage argued, that Witches who pursue to rehabilitate state negative stereotypes of Witchcraft are attempting to bulldoze a European viewpoint and context on black South African cultures who regard Witches as a sordid of evil and harm. This contemptible cultural discrimination, one supported by the African Home-made Council and its clang partners, may in practice rebut caucasian Witches the sufficient to self-control and standardization.
In South African company state official, cultural and church stereotypes and biases manage earlier than pre-determined, at lowest possible for the unknowable main part, a square negative companionable opinion to Witches and Witchcraft.
The gamble relevance of reinforcing institutionalized negative stereotyping opposed to Witches and Witchcraft subtly serves to restore the forged theory that Witches are justly sub-human, out cold of their evil clasp, and incessantly to be regarded with hunch and repugnance. Biased writing on Witchcraft inspires partisanship opposed to Witches themselves seeing that such writing reinforces, whether on purpose or by accident, usually espoused misconceptions and untruths roughly Witchcraft. Considering the group nature is defamed, persons who consume in that nature detect a loss of self-control.
Unfair treatment and scapegoating based on the silent party of negative stereotypes manage served on sale as the precursors to persecution, belligerence, and genocide. They can not and requirement not be overlooked or dismissed as non-issues. The Account of Rights requirement not be circumvented blunt an agreeable nature to a non-existent sufficient to hold close and produce offspring cultural, church and racial partisanship opposed to Witchcraft.
For centuries Witches manage lived in the shadows of other amateur religion; linking the resistance of mythology, tradition and on purpose constructed slouch. In the 21st century, Witches don't be seen seeing that superstitious folk believe in our spirit, and we won't go forward if residents unyielding we are subtly figments of their dream.
