Greetings,
Most mage/wizard players expect to learn new spells in gameplay. RAW, however, you just can't spend character points earned in campaign to learn new spells (and there was a intense discussion about this). While looking for some solution, I found this on Dungeon Fantasy 6 - Sages, p. 15:
"A reader who meets all the prerequisites to "learn" the spell may try to do so: read the scroll, roll against its skill, and on a success, pay one character point to learn it instead of casting."
It also says on a side note in the same page:
"Scrolls and GURPS Magic
...and the rules for learning spells and for new classes of scrolls arent described in Magic."
Although it says that this rule isn't described in Magic, I was wondering if it was described elsewhere or if DF 6 - Sages was the first GURPS book to present such rule. If so, is that a Dungeon Fantasy special rule? Or would that also apply to more a complex fantasy setting like Banestorm (which I'm currently playing)?
Alongside magical scrolls, the Reawakened advantage (Basic Set, p. 80) seems to be another viable way to learn spells quickly than spending hours studying and DF 11 - Power-ups (p. 37) seems to confirm the idea that you can remember spells from past lives. Am I missing something or is that right?

My intention is to draw seven Tea Leaf Fortune Cards every Tuesday to gain insight into what the week ahead may have in store for me. Who knows how this will turn out, because I do not use cards for divination all that often; more like cheap therapy.
I will probably take whoever is leaving my life pretty hard, which is just like me, because once people are in my life, I like to keep 'em, but it is actually for the best, as I will move forward spiritually through it and the problem will not be long lasting.

Update, March 22, 2011: My major challenge to overcome and sorrow over a loss manifested in the taxes not quite going the way I thought they were going to, but that is okay. Something is better than nothing, fo' sho! The person leaving my life is a social worker, who while sweet, compassionate, and doing a great job at what she does, I feel is unnecessary, and she has exited our family scene, forever, I hope, and I do wish her well! It's good to have these kinds of services for people who need them, but I don't think that applies to my family. Still, I am grateful that they came, even if I am resentful of the false claim that brought them. The temporary problems speak of that, and the money situation, as well as a tiny misunderstanding type spat between The Man and I, but they were swept away quickly, like always with us. My spiritual development is coming from committing to a course in study of "The Inner Temple Of Witchcraft: Magick, Meditation, and Psychic Development" by Christopher Penczak, which if nothing else I believe will strengthen my reading abilities for tarot, and enhance my creative flow for writing. I am also honored to be a student in my friend Joy's class, Intuitive Astrology, which seems to be the only way I can learn the stuff, and I would like to so that I can enhance my tarot reading as well. Spring cleaning goes on, and on, and on...

By making small, daily shifts that allow us to feel good in this very moment, we open ourselves up to unlimited vitality, wellness and abundance.
1) TAKE THREE DEEP CLEANSING BREATHS. There is nothing more effective and immediate in relieving stress than cultivating an awareness of the breath. In times of overwhelm, aggravation and never-ending to-do lists, we can focus on the breath to release that which is no longer serving us and access the deep well of stillness and peace that exists within. Breath work, in Sanskrit, is called "pranayama." Translated in English, this is the directing or mastering (yama) of our life force energy (prana). We are the masters of our own energy. And our breath can serve has a powerful reminder of that truth. Whenever you are feeling lost, angry, anxious, tired, just pause. Breathe in deeply through the nose. Exhale through the mouth with a big, cleansing sigh. Repeat three times, and enjoy the peace that will surely follow.
2) MOVE. Sitting for prolonged periods of time has been clinically proven to create strain on the neck and body that can lead to chronic health conditions and back problems. Fatigue is one of the most serious health-related problems that affects not only our work, but the quality of our life. While we may not have control over job requirements that keep us desk-bound, we most certainly do have a choice of how we approach that reality. In the 80's and 90's, it was perfectly acceptable to take "smoke breaks" throughout the work day. Give yourself permission to take a "movement break." Stand up and stretch. Practice chair yoga. Take a lap around the building. Instead of firing off yet another email, walk to your coworker's office to ask a question. Just a few minutes every hour will make your body feel years younger.
3) EXPRESS GRATITUDE. It is human nature to focus on the things we wish were different in our lives. In our success-driven society, we are constantly looking for ways to become an ever better version of ourselves. As if there is anything wrong with who we are right now, in this very moment. What if we shifted our focus to the things that are "right"? What if we offered little moments of silent gratitude for our families, the opportunity to earn a living, the summer vacation we are counting the days to, the beautiful smile that the cashier shined upon us at the grocery store last night? By allowing ourselves to be grateful for life's blessings, big and small, we create a whole new reality. Not only does it put into perspective the things we deem to be "wrong", but we open our hearts to receive even more abundance. There is an entire universe full of blessings just waiting for you to receive them.
In a matter of minutes, these three small, simple shifts can be incorporated every single day. Make it a challenge. Get others to join. Witness the positive benefits unfold in all areas of life. And most importantly... Enjoy!
