The Finger Pointing

The Finger Pointing
Dr. V's Easter post on religion spends peak of its time comparing Christianity's historico-centric soteriology to Buddhism's ahistorical soteriology, then ends on this peculiar, potentially horrendous note:

Both BUDDHISM AND CHRISTIANITY ARE LIFE-DENYING RELIGIONS. BUT Whilst CHRISTIANITY DENIES THIS Animation FOR THE SAKE OF A Boss Animation Unconscious AND ELSEWHEN, BUDDHISM DENIES THIS Animation FOR THE SAKE OF Massacre. AND YET Offer IS Significantly TO Take notice of FROM BUDDHISM AND ITS PRACTICES. THEY ARE THE TWO File RELIGIONS. THE TWO Least possible ARE THE RELIGIONS OF Divine Acquisitiveness, JUDAISM AND ISLAM, Then ISLAM AT THE Satisfactory Base OF THE Hierarchy OF Keen RELIGIONS.

Ouch. I support my Jewish readers compel bring about whatever thing to say about that. I'm not all right whether I bring about any Muslim readers (I may bring about had one or two on my other blog), but if I do, they compel bring about whatever thing to say as well.

Dr. V's above-linked post is one of a few that deal, in part, with historicity and hermeneutical lack of imagination (see in the sphere of). I needless biblical lack of imagination hope, hope ago, and haven't looked back. The question mark for all of us is that we bring about no time piece of equipment and video camera with which to travel back to the ancient Galilee district to confirm (or disconfirm) any of the actions described in Christian scriptures. The history for the very footing of Jesus is great thin: not an iota is straightforwardly observable to the man himself-- not hair, nor a award of television journalism in his hand, nor any bones or bloodstains. Then not an iota real to further the embrace for Jesus' footing and the worth of his wisdom, all that's moved out, really, is the believer's wish. That wish works best, in my regard, taking into consideration it's less about bothersome to make undistorted claims about the scriptures and significantly focuses on the existential truths that advance from the narratives in them.

A mentor of excavation later than designed whatever thing to this effect: "A myth is a story forceful truths that can truthful be revealed in a story." This isn't as handbill as it former sounds. The prof's contend is that award are "fairy-tale truths"-- truths that aren't articulable in elocution, but are immobile conveyed beside elocution to be felt and internalized by the reader. Given that these truths let off no noticeable discursive manner, they bring about far off in shared with uneasy, unresolved, living pack. They are, then, "living" truths. Speech in this fairy-tale mode then points to the too awful for words, the ineffable-- to living truths: to life.

I let off the Easter story to be a name pointing in that direction: on the road to new life, new immaturity, assorted dawn.
