The following existence of the rule of James I had seen the pleasantly of the Arminian grasp in the Religious particularly with the meeting of such men as Richard Neile, Lancelot Andrewes and William Praise to the skies to the episcopate.
The Arminians saw the yearn for for the patch up of the catholic principles of the Religious of England, principles which were becoming flooded by the supremacy of Calvinist theology and distrust which so taken the Religious in the clutch existence of Elizabeth's rule and the initial existence of James.
S.Charles was an affirmed Arminian who, thickly positive by Andrewes and, in be over, Praise to the skies, set about restoring the Religious of England towards a better-quality 'catholic' sacramental and liturgical life. Equivalent his mother beforehand him, Charles was excessively a resilient supporter in the creed of the Prophesy Veritable of Kings, a creed which he recognised as best upheld by the Kick Religious sound in the Religious of England.
With the certain followers of William Praise to the skies, who was proper by Charles as Archbishop of Canterbury in 1633, Arminians were promoted and became the utmost positive sound in the Religious. Unquestionably church interaction in the 1630s were taken by S.Charles and Praise to the skies. Praise to the skies became a detest detriment for the Calvinist collection who saw that Praise to the skies and the King were set on dismantling the Calvinist shape of the Religious.
At what time sunny to resuscitate the catholicity of the Religious, Praise to the skies was not a Romanist and located a special inflection on the rightful use of the Accept of Rude Spell which had become sharply unrecognisable in profuse dioceses. He excessively located a depression on preaching, believing it to be companion to prayer and the sacraments in shared adore and that this would rightful what he saw as an inconsistency in favour of preaching. As can be normal, this riled an commotion from the no noise honest Calvinist indirect in the Religious.
The Consecrated Communion was as anew seen as the unsophisticated action of the Religious nearer than the converse. The creed of the Certain Spirit at the Communion was as anew taught in the universities. Vestments began to be wrinkled anew. Candles were lit as better-quality and a portly inflection was located on the externals of adore plus the use of music. In be over altars were restored in church buildings, replacing the communion tables which had in turn in use the place of the old stone altars in the field of the iconoclasm of the protestant reform.
S.Charles lock, stock and barrel supported Praise to the skies and his man Arminians in their efforts. It condition not be distrust that the King supported them truly from a sponsor aspect. At what time it is true that the Kick Churchmen were considerably better-quality considerate of the duty of the King as the anointed ruler than the ultra-puritan sound, they were excessively superlative in their for one person fervor and devotional life. The 'Caroline Divines', as they identifiable come to be common, spent a profligate legacy of spiritual writings such as the sermons of Lancelot Andrewes and The Citizens Cleric by George Herbert.
Spiritual Syndicate life was re-established by Nicholas Ferrar at Offspring Gidding, succeeding immortalised by T.S. Eliot. Their grasp unremitting the Religious swallow the dark days of the Commonwealth and were recognised in succeeding generations as a blonde experience of Anglicanism. All of this was supported and fostered by Charles himself, whose own for one person fervor was widely remarked on in his own time. This can be seen in his book Eikon Basilke and in profuse present prints and etchings.
With the loss of the Polite War and the massacre of Praise to the skies, Charles was spent as a in prison of the parliamentarian and puritan elect. It is now widely recognised that he was accessible his throne if he would hand over episcopacy and the Spell Accept and involve Presbyterianism. This he refused and so found himself by massacre. This took place on 30th of January 1649. He was attended truly by William Juxon who was to outdo Praise to the skies as Archbishop of Canterbury at the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660.
Unlike any ruler in the same way as, S. Charles attempted to compel his own prospect of the Church's life. Nonetheless, this was due to a normal religious sureness on Charles' part that the Religious of England was part of the Catholic Religious and that it essential to be restored to that purpose and, as God's anointed and divinely proper King, he had to defeat the lead. Lastly it was to proposal him his life period belt-tightening exercise the Religious.

The Celts were a technologically advanced and barbarous take part who

lighter, two wheeled wagons.
Celtic religion featured assorted female deities such as mother goddesses
and war goddesses. The Mother God of the Celts was commonly conceived

each clique or relations would brag its own names for particular gods and

Brute symbolism found in Celtic myths convey boars, plants, serpents,

DEVIL: Supreme embodiment of evil and the archenemy of God, also known as Beelzebub, Lucifer, Old Nick, Satan and the Prince of Darkness. Satan has been depicted in many ways: as a man with horns, goat hoofs and pitchfork, and as an angel with large bat wings. In the early book of the Old Testament, it was God who inflicted punishment on men, while one of his officials- known as 'THE SATAN', Hebrew for 'adversary' - acted as a prosecutor. In the New Testament and in later times, the image of Satan grew increasingly monstrous, until he was eventually blamed for all sin and evil, the story of the fall from heaven of Lucifer is told in the Book of Isaiah, in the Old Testament. Belief in the Devil was largely abandoned among theologians as a result of the Enlightenment. JOHN MILTON's epic poem "PARADISE LOST" tells of the rebellion and punishment of Lucifer, a proud, arrogant and tragic figure who believes that it is '"better to reign in hell than serve in heaven"'.
FAUST: Legendary scholar, magician and practitioner of astrology, who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for youth, knowledge and power. A 'real' Faust lived in 16th century Germany- a charlatan who boasted that he could perform miracles because he was in league with the Devil. The writers CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE and JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE wrote plays about Faust. In Marlowe's Dr. Faust, ends up being dragged to hell to face an eternity of torment; in Goethe's version, however, Faust is finally redeemed. A 'Faustian' bargains is one in which a person sells his soul for huge tangible material gain.

Back when I was a philosophy student, I had a fondness for logical paradoxes.
One of the most famous is the Liar's Paradox, which takes different forms, like:
* I am lying.
* This sentence is false.
This paradox is particularly useful for talking androids to death in the "Star Trek "universe, though it has less immediate practical value in our own.
It's a fun paradox, but I get tired of people dissing St. Paul over it.
Let's talk about that...
PEOPLE DISS ST. PAUL OVER IT?
Yeah. You see, sometimes people say that one version of the paradox is called the Epimenides Paradox, after a guy who lived around 600 B.C.
St. Paul quotes him, and some commentators claim that St. Paul didn't understand what he was quoting-that he missed the paradox entirely.
WHO WAS EPIMENIDES AND WHAT WAS HIS PARADOX?
Epimenides ("ep-ih-MEN-ih-DEES") was a native of Knossos on the island of Crete. He was apparently a poet and was regarded by some as a prophet. There are a lot of legends about his life, and we don't actually know that much about him, but he is famous for having said:
Cretans, [are] always liars, evil beasts, idle bellies.
Being a Cretan himself, if Cretans were "always" liars then Epimenides would have had to have been lying when he said this.
People think that results in a paradox that's a variation of "I am lying."
That statement generates a paradox because if the person who utters it "is" lying then he is telling the truth, but if he is telling the truth then he is lying, and so on until the android's head starts to smoke and our heroes are released from captivity from Oppressive Android Paradise.
WHERE DOES ST. PAUL QUOTE THIS?
In his letter to Titus, who he has left behind on the island of Crete (Titus 1:5). He tells Titus to warn priests and bishops:
For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially the circumcision party; they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for base gain what they have no right to teach.
One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."
This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith [Titus 1:10-13].
WHAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE DISSING ST. PAUL ABOUT THIS?
In his book "The Physics of the Impossible", Michio Kaku discusses the statement "I am a liar" and writes:
The second statement [i.e., "I am a liar"] is the famous liar's paradox. The Cretan philosopher Epimenides used to illustrate this paradox by saying, "All Cretans are liars."
However, Saint Paul missed the point entirely and wrote, in his epistle to Titus, "One of Crete's own prophets has said it, 'Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.' He has surely told the truth" [p. 301].
Dr. Kaku may know physics, but he's a bit shakier when it comes to philosophy and St. Paul.
Philosophically speaking, "I am a liar" is "not" a paradox.
A person can acknowledge that he is a liar (someone who tells lies on occasion, even frequently) without claiming to be lying "at the moment". Saying "I am a liar" is not the same thing as saying "I am lying."
He's also wrong to accuse St. Paul of missing the point.
WHY IS HE WRONG TO DO THAT?
For one reason, St. Paul was a very smart guy and one who was more than capable of recognizing and using irony (cf. Gal. 5:11-12).
If Epimenides was trying to make an ironic, paradoxical statement about Cretans then a man of St. Paul's intellect and educational attainments (Acts 22:3) should not be presumed to be a bumpkin just of the turnip truck who was incapable of recognizing it.
If we're going to presume anything, we should presume that St. Paul was smart enough to pick up on what Epimenides was doing and "use the quotation in the same way that it was in the original"-i.e., that St. Paul understood the paradoxical nature of the statement and used it in the same, ironic way that Epimenides did.
But, before we presume anything, we should check the original context to find out what Epimenides was doing.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE CHECK THE ORIGINAL CONTEXT?
Epimenides made his famous statement in a poem called "Cretica". For a long time, we didn't have the original context of Epimenides' statement, but it was rediscovered by the English biblical scholar J. Rendel Harris and published in the early 20th century.
He reconstructed a Greek version of the original passage, which translates into English as follows:
They fashioned a tomb for you, holy and high one,
Cretans, always liars, evil beasts, idle bellies.
But you are not dead: you live and abide forever,
For in you we live and move and have our being.
This text is spoken to Zeus, the "holy and high one" for whom the Cretans made a tomb.
WHAT DOES EPIMENIDES MEAN WHEN HE SAYS CRETANS ARE "ALWAYS LIARS"?
Being from Crete himself, he surely does not mean this in the hyper-literal way that Norman the Android would take it.
Even Mr. Spock was capable of recognizing hyperbole when he heard it (sometimes), and Epimenides' statement should be recognized as just that: It's hyperbole, or exaggeration to make a point.
It is not that different than what Isaiah says when he sees his vision of God:
"Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!"
Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
And he touched my mouth, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven" [Is. 6:5-7].
The reference to "unclean lips" may be a reference to sin in a more general sense, but it can also be taken as a reference to lying and other sins of speech.
If taken this way, Isaiah would be admitting his own sins of speech and those of his people-without claiming that he was lying at this very moment-and Epimenides may be seen as doing the same thing.
Assuming he didn't have something much more particular in mind.
COULD EPIMENIDES HAVE HAD SOMETHING MORE PARTICULAR IN MIND?
Yes. According to one interpretation of the passage from Epimenides quoted above, he wasn't just charging his countrymen with being liars in a general sense: He was charging them with a "specific "lie.
Look at the context: The Cretans have built a tomb for Zeus, which implies that Zeus is dead.
But according to Epimenides, Zeus is "not" dead, for "you are not dead: you live and abide forever."
Some have thus understood Epimenides as accusing the Cretans of the "specific" lie of having said that Zeus was dead when he was not.
If so then, since he was "affirming" that Zeus was alive, Epimenides himself was not a party to this lie and thus could not have been affirming that "Cretans are always liars" in a hyper-literal sense.
In that case, the alleged paradox vanishes, for there is clearly a Cretan who rejects this lie-Epimenides himself!
ARE THERE OTHER WAYS OF LOOKING AT THIS TEXT?
Yes. While Epimenides "is" denying the common Cretan implication that Zeus is dead, he may have more in mind than this accusation.
The statement that Cretans are "always liars" is naturally read as a more general statement than just a charge about Zeus being dead.
This impression is reinforced by his references to them being "evil beasts, idle bellies."
While the issue of Zeus being dead is clearly present, Epimenides seems to be making a more general charge of sinfulness on the part of Cretans.
This is a standard charge, not unlike those found in the Jewish prophets, and it does not give rise to a paradox.
WHY DOESN'T IT GIVE RISE TO A PARADOX?
Strictly speaking on logical grounds, if Epimenides the Cretan said "Cretans are always liars," what prevents Epimenides from lying "in that very statement"?
If Epimenides is lying then he is uttering a knowing falsehood: He "knows" that "Cretans are not always liars".
And there is nothing paradoxical about that.
Some Cretans tell the truth-at least some of the time-and Epimenides would be lying about that fact. His lie may be ironic, but it doesn't give rise to a paradox. Some Cretans simply tell the truth.
In reality, though, this is logic chopping. Whatever degree of irony is present in his statement, Epimenides is actually making a general lament about the sinfulness of his countrymen, including their propensity to lie.
He is not trying to generate a logical paradox, as illustrated by the fact that nobody interpreted the statement that way for centuries.
REALLY? NOBODY INTERPRETED IT THAT WAY FOR CENTURIES?
Apparently not. It does not seem to have been taken that way until 1740, after the original context of what he said had been lost.
Epimenides himself "wasn't" generating a paradox, and so the ancients-who had access to the original context-didn't take him as doing so.
DID ST. PAUL HAVE ACCESS TO THE ORIGINAL CONTEXT?
It would seem so. Notice that the last line of the passage we quoted was "For in you we live and move and have our being."
That same line is paraphrased by St. Paul in Acts 17, when he addresses the Aeropagus in Athens:
The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by man.... Yet he is not far from each one of us, for 'In him we live and move and have our being' [Acts 17:24, 27-28].
ST. PAUL ISN'T APPLYING THAT TO ZEUS, IS HE?
No. The Greeks often adopted philosophical interpretations of their own mythology as symbolic of a higher divine reality with Zeus-or other gods-representing "God" in a generic sense.
Christian apologists thus sometimes used Greek quotations about divinity to make points about the true God, who had not revealed himself to the Greeks, which is what Paul is doing here (Acts 17:22-23).
The point remains that Paul shows knowledge of the broader context of Epimenides' statement, since in Acts he quotes another portion of it.
He was thus in a good position to understand what Epimenides meant.
WHAT ABOUT PAUL'S STATEMENT TO TITUS THAT WHAT EPIMENIDES SAID IS TRUE?
Paul is not asserting that all Cretans are always liars. After all, he has left Titus in Crete to appoint priests and bishops for the Christian churches there (Titus 1:5-9).
These men are expected "not" to be liars, and that's why Paul tells Titus to warn them against immorality.
The statement that what Epimenides says about Cretans is ture does, however, resonate with the view of Cretan culture at the time.
WHAT DID PEOPLE THINK ABOUT CRETAN CULTURE IN THE FIRST CENTURY?
They thought it was pretty immoral. Biblical scholar William Mounce notes:
Hanson points out... that the Cretans had a reputation for stealing, and that during the first century B.C. Crete became famous for housing robbers and pirates.
Cicero states that "the Cretans... consider piracy and brigandage honorable" ("Republic" 3.9.15; LCL tr.; cf. also Josephus "Ant." 17.5.5 SSSS117, 120; Polybius "Hist." 6.46.3).
If this is an accurate characterization, it is no wonder that Paul's requirements for church leaders (vv 5-9) are so basic.
His statement of approval, "This testimony is true," is his way of giving apostolic authority to something said by a non-Christian.
Quinn says that Crete was famous for not having any wild animals (108; citing Plutarch "De capienda" 86C; Pliny "Hist." 8.83).
This creates a powerful twist in the saying. While most countries had to deal with wild beasts, in Crete the same problem was posed by people who, in the absence of wild animals, assumed the role themselves ["Word Biblical Commentary: vol. 46: Pastoral Epistles, "at Titus 1:12].
First-century Crete thus had a reputation of being a place of pirates and thieves, not unlike Somalia had a few years ago during the wave of Somalian pirates.
The fact that some Cretans were becoming Christians was thus a sign of hope, but the fact that they lived in such a corrupt culture meant that extra warnings against immorality were needed.
SO PEOPLE SHOULDN'T DISS ST. PAUL ABOUT THE EPIMENIDES "PARADOX"?
No. In the first place, St. Paul was a smart guy who would have been able to recognize an ironic, paradoxical statement about Cretans if that was what Epimenides had been making.
In reality, though, this was not what the earlier author was doing. He was making a general lament about his people's sinfulness-with particular reference to their "God is dead" claims-without saying that the literally lied on every single occasion.
That's why nobody claimed Epimenides was even making a paradoxical claim until very recently-long after the work was lost and before the original context was rediscovered.
St. Paul knew the original context, and he made an appropriate application to the Cretan culture of his own day.
Now, in case you didn't click on the above, here's a bit of fun with the cast of "Star Trek" and their own application of the Liar's paradox.

In the meantime, what do you think?
So what makes me a witch? Can I just say I'm a witch and be one? Do I need to live by the rule of three? How do I know I'm a witch? How do I come to terms with others "becoming" a witch? These are the odd questions I find myself contemplating this morning. I've recently learned that someone who was extremely nasty and negative, someone who in the past contacted me with hate and anger has "become" a witch. My first thought is, well if it harms none, then let it go. Accept the new face for what it is displaying and go forward. The skeptical part of me however thinks otherwise. The skeptical part of me thinks that maybe this is just another part of the "Woo let me shock everyone" by this time picking up Wicca and calling myself a witch. Am I being too judgmental? It's not like I own Wicca. It's not like I can tell anyone if they are or are not truly a witch. To go further, it's not even like I really want to discuss it with them either. To me, in order to "Be A Witch", you need to be one with nature. You need to have your body and mind grounded. You need to be able to look at the world understand that negativity is out there, identify it and react accordingly. You cannot look at the world with seek and destroy glasses on, you have to pull out those live and let live glasses and trust that all that we see is part of the natural circle of life. Even the bad stuff. To be a witch you need to understand that you can focus your energies and send them out to others. You need to send that energy out in a positive way. You need to respect the rule of three and do what you can to honor the Reede. Most of all, you need to have a giving understanding accepting and loving heart.More than a having an altar, more than having books and candles, the mind is the most important tool for a witch. Keep your tool clean, sharp and true and you'll always be one with the Goddess.Today I send out positive energies and hope to those in my past that have wronged me. I send out forgiveness and love to those that have shunned me and hated me. I send out understanding and an offer of friendship to those that have hurt me. To me, that's what's a witch.Blessed BeSosanna)O(Read Confessions of a Modern Witch

(Jn 12, 6) He said this because he was a thief He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.(CCC 2420) The Church makes a moral judgment about economic and social matters, "when the fundamental rights of the person or the salvation of souls requires it" (GS 76 SS 5). In the moral order she bears a mission distinct from that of political authorities: the Church is concerned with the temporal aspects of the common good because they are ordered to the sovereign Good, our ultimate end. She strives to inspire right attitudes with respect to earthly goods and in socio-economic relationships. (CCC 2421) The social doctrine of the Church developed in the nineteenth century when the Gospel encountered modern industrial society with its new structures for the production of consumer goods, its new concept of society, the state and authority, and its new forms of labor and ownership. The development of the doctrine of the Church on economic and social matters attests the permanent value of the Church's teaching at the same time as it attests the true meaning of her Tradition, always living and active (Cf. CA 3). (CCC 2422) The Church's social teaching comprises a body of doctrine, which is articulated as the Church interprets events in the course of history, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, in the light of the whole of what has been revealed by Jesus Christ (Cf. SRS 1; 41). This teaching can be more easily accepted by men of good will, the more the faithful let themselves be guided by it. (CCC 2423) The Church's social teaching proposes principles for reflection; it provides criteria for judgment; it gives guidelines for action: Any system in which social relationships are determined entirely by economic factors is contrary to the nature of the human person and his acts (Cf. CA 24).
History of Witchcraft (part 2)
From Mesopotamia lets move over to Persia.
Unlike the Mesopotamians, and Egyptians, who believed that all
was done with either the favor or lack ther of the Gods, the
Chaldean star religion taught that luck and disaster were no
chance events, but were controlled from the heavenly bodies
(planets/stars) which send good and bad according to mathematical
laws. It was their belief that man was incapable of fighting the
will of the planet divinities. Though, the more this system
evolved, the more the wise men read ethical values into man's
fate. The will of the stars was not completely separate from
man's behaviors. The stars were important, but not omnipotent in
deciding man's fate. It was believed that the star Sirius would
carry messages to the higher gods and he returned to announce
their will.
Around the 7th Century B.C. Zoroaster, the Median prophet was
preaching the doctrines that evil could be avoided and defeated.
He brought about the principles of the good and evil spirits.
Below, we will look at the beliefs and influences of this man's
life which created the religion named after him.
The first of the belief structure had to do with Ormazd (Ahura-
Mazda) king of light, and his twin brother Ahriman (Anro-Mainyu)
prince of darkness.
Zoroaster brought about the belief in the "holy war" (that
between good and evil.) In this faith, the archangels (the
spirits of Divine Wisdom, Righteousness, Dominion, Devotion,
Totality, and Salvation) and the demons (the spirits of Anarchy,
Apostasy, Presumption, Destruction, Decay, and Fury) were
constantly at battle with one another. The archangels were
controled by Ormazd and the demons by Ahriman.
This religion had it's belief that in the end, Ormazd and his
demons would prevail, but until then, Ormazd would keep the world
safe.
It is interesting that the last of the demons (the demon of Fury)
holds such a hard and fast thought that it was incorporated into
the Hebrew and Christian belief structure. The last archdemon's
name is Aeshma Daeva also know to the Hebrews as Ashmadai and to
Christians as Asmodeus.
Asmodeus was the "chief of the fourth hierarchy of evil demons",
called "the avengers of wickedness, crimes and misdeeds." He
appears with three heads, a bull's, human, and a ram. He has
goose feet, and a snake's tail. To appear more frightening, he
also exhales fire and rides upon a dragon of hell.
It is said that Asmodeus is not to be feared. When you say to
him: "In truth thou art Asmodeus," he will give you a wonderful
ring. He will teach you geometry, arithmetic, astronomy and
mechanics. When questioned, he answers truthfully.
The other demons tempt people away from the true worship of
Mazda. They are Paromaiti - Arrogance, Mitox - The Falsely
Spoken Word, Zaurvan - Decrepitude, Akatasa - Meddlesomeness,
Vereno - Lust.
Much of the current day Christian beliefs were taken from this
man's religion. (That of good and evil forces, the redemption,
the "savior" factor, etc.)
From here, let us move on to Egypt where we will look at other
mystical symbols and more history of magic and the craft.

At the present time I crowd to the agreement of North Syracuse with my son, nicarus. We resolute to catch a glimpse of a metaphysical shop present-day called Soothsayer Limit ( http://www.mysticsidegiftbookstore.net/ ). Precise with everything from A to Z, such good "stuff" for someone peculiar in, or living the routine of, Wiccan, Pagan, and so forth. I prized the aroma of the incense as we cover walked in... easy on the eye crystals, pendants, dreamcatchers on the edge from the constraint...books, books and more books. Wind you up, candles, gems, and so ominously more. I prized their cauldrons and the carcass and pestles. Being a great shop!. I relay been undersupplied to go present-day for a crave time, and never seemed to make time to go present-day. I shall without a doubt be visiting frequently. And they relay the cutest calorific black cat named (what excessively) Soothsayer. Ample the cutie.I wish I had gotten a picture of her.

God's 007In the spring of 1983, an unassuming, middle-aged fellow by the lofty name of Derry Mainwaring Knight appeared in Newick, East Sussex, and began attending the local Anglican church, St. Mary's. He became a regular at Bible studies and prayer meetings. He offered to hand out Christian tracts. He told the late vicar, John Baker, that he had been born again in jail (he had just been released from Hull Prison after serving time for a rape conviction). His sincerity and eagerness to devote himself to his newfound faith must have touched Reverend Baker deeply, because he did everything in his power to help the ex-con. When Knight said he was homeless, Baker gave him a room in the rectory attic, rent-free. When Knight said he was desperately short of cash, Baker promptly raised over lb6000 to put toward the newcomer's debts.St. Mary's Church in NewickThat's when Knight began to show symptoms of demonic possession, lapsing into strange trances and talking about the Devil.During one such spell, he revealed to Baker that he was the grandson of a sorceress who groomed him from childhood to be a great Satanic leader. When he was just eight years old, Granny informed Derry he could enter into communion with the Devil himself if special platinum plates were surgically implanted in his skull. The plates were installed, and just as Granny promised, Derry was able to communicate directly with Satan. As an adult, he become a high-ranking member of a secretive but powerful cult. When he came out of his altered state, Baker repeated all this to Knight and asked him if it was true. Yes, Knight admitted, it was. For years, he had been struggling to break free from a Satanic cabal that operated at the the highest levels of English society. The son of a pastor, Knight had been raised in Germany. Lucifer manifested in his bedroom one night to claim him when he was nine, he told Baker. Now, Derry claimed, he wanted to destroy his own devil-worshiping sect from within. He wanted to rid himself of demonic possession. He wanted to pay off his debts to cult members, so they could no longer hold sway over him. He wanted to bring other Satanists out of occult slavery. He wanted to destroy unholy Satanic regalia. To do all that, though, he would need funds. Major funds.Over the next several months, members of St. Mary's Church and other area residents donated a staggering sum (over lb300,000) to Knight's anti-Satanic crusade. The county high sheriff gave over lb83,000 pounds. The wife of millionaire Tory MP Timothy Sainsbury ponied up nearly lb120,000 pounds. Anthony David Brand, Lord Hampden contributed a Rolls-Royce with state-of-the-art communications equipment so that Knight could continue to pose as an affluent Satanist-about-town. The bishop of Lewes wrote a letter on Derry's behalf, requesting donations for his "necessary work". In November 1983, Reverend Baker secured a lb25,000 loan from a Christian charity and handed it over to Knight.Lady Susan Sainsbury, one of Knight's prominent victimsWhere did all this money go? Knight claimed to be buying up Satanic paraphernalia such as talismans and robes, expressly to destroy them in dramatic ceremonies. He explained that some of these items were being used to magically influence him, keeping him tied to Satan; the objects would send "signals" to the plates in his head. Oddly, no one suggested he simply get the plates removed. On one memorable occasion, Knight flung a golden scepter into the Thames. Another time, he and the Reverend Baker carried a silver chalice into the church garden and crushed it.At the time of his arrest in 1985, Baker was in the process of raising lb20,000 so Knight could acquire a "Satanic throne" from a lavish temple in Pall Mall. The members of St. Mary's didn't get to see a lot for their money, but they treasured the satisfaction of knowing they were literally buying a man's way out hell. Like shareholders, they held regular meetings so they could be briefed on Knight's progress. No one in the Newick congregation was aware that Knight had just been sprung from prison after a rape conviction. Nor that he had prior convictions for fraud and robbery. Nor that he was an out-of-work housepainter in spite of his cult's supposed affluence.Clearly, he was still in Satan's grip and needed all the help they could give him. Sometimes he would collapse to the ground in a deep trance, muttering Satanic incantations. The first person to hear serious alarm bells in his head was the Bishop of Chichester, the late Eric Kemp. The septuagenarian bishop caught wind in the summer of 1985 that congregants in Newick were throwing fat sums of money at a Satanic double agent, and didn't think it sounded quite right. The double-agent thing was sensible enough, he thought, but the donations seemed excessive. The alarm bells turned to sirens when Derry himself told Kemp he had been initiated into Satanism by a defrocked Catholic cardinal. As Bishop Kemp knew, no English cardinals had been defrocked in the '50s.Kemp believed the Charismatic movement, which was popular among certain Anglicans at that time, rendered Christians vulnerable to this sort of deception. They focused on the ubiquity of evil until they convinced themselves that things like mind-control scepters and telepathic head-plates could really exist. They also convinced themselves that God was speaking directly to them, exhorting them to help scammers like Knight in His name.A church investigation, conducted by a retired bishop, uncovered Knight's police record, and Newick authorities were notified. Inspector Terrance Fallon concluded he was dealing with your typical con man - Derry was just luckier than the usual crook, having stumbled onto a community of kind-hearted and extraordinarily gullible people with scads of money. The donations had gone straight into Knight's own pocketbook, usually manifesting as gifts for "lady friends", high-end car rentals for himself, and posh parties. On one occasion, he chartered a champagne steamboat cruise along the Thames for one hundred guests. The Anglicans were not invited.Knight, under Inspector Fallon's questioning, played the innocent. Sure, he had asked the vicar for some cash to pay down a debt, and chatted with him about black magic and Satanism because Baker was "interested in that sort of thing". But he never asked for another handout, he insisted. The Anglicans were so keen to squash Satanic evildoing in their area that they plied him with fistfuls of money every time he showed up for a prayer meeting, begging him to do something about the occult menace. (1)As it turned out, Knight had a colourful history of scamming Christians out of their money. He had been dishonorably discharged from the Coldstream Guards for defrauding a fellow out of thousands of marks. When the Anglicans of Newick learned about Knight's real past, and his Larry Flynt present, most of them wisely faced the fact they had been scammed. Many of them testified against Derry at his 1986 trial. So did local jewelers who had been hired by Derry to craft peculiar-looking scepters and medallions out of gold and silver.Church member Randle Mainwaring (no relation) testified that Knight once proposed sexually blackmailing a local bank manager to raise funds for his anti-Satanism campaign. But others stubbornly maintained that Derry had been doing God's work, and should never have been arrested. Michael Warren, who lost lb36,000 pounds to this "work", vociferously defended Derry from the witness stand and warned the court that Satanism was "very much a potent source of evil in this country". (2)Reverend Baker, too, remained certain that Knight's life was imperiled by devil-worshipers. On the witness stand, he refused to name the items he and Derry had destroyed, for fear he and others would be "shot or disposed of in some way" by cult leaders for revealing details of their ritual implements. (2)Though Knight admitted to Inspector Fallon that he wasn't a Satanist, just the recipient of something like compulsive philanthropy, his trial defence strategy was to declare himself a member of a cult called "The Sons of Lucifer" and bring out shocking testimony that would blow the lid off Satanic doings at the highest levels of English society. He "outed" two Tory politicians (William Whitelaw, Enoch Powell) and one Labour MP (Leopold Abse) as cult members. He declared he would have no need to bilk money out of churchgoers, because he was a successful pimp.Derry Mainwaring Knight was convicted of nineteen counts of obtaining money by deception and sentenced to seven years in prison by Judge Neil Denison. He also received a lb75,000 fine. After his conviction, his own mother claimed he had conned her out of a large sum of cash.Knight's LegacyReachout Trust, a UK organization dedicated to fighting the occult, listed Derry Mainwaring Knight's story as evidence that ritual abuse was really occurring in England in the '80s, and with Reverend Kevin Logan produced a tape titled Set Free in Christ. In the video, a woman identified as Peggy Knight claimed she was Derry's mother and a born again Christian. She said the cult Derry betrayed still posed a serious threat to the entire family.Logan also included the Knight story in his 1988 book Paganism and the Occult, though he obscured the names and details. In this book, Logan stated that every city and major town in the UK contains a "small exclusive coven made up mostly of people in the professions." (3)Logan was heavily involved in UK Satanic panic; one of his most tragic Satanic ritual abuse misadventures is described in my post on Doreen Irvine. We'll see Logan and Reachout Trust again in the next part of this series, dealing with "former Satanist" Audrey Harper.Today, professional conspiranoid David Icke still considers Derry Mainwaring Knight a valuable Satanic whistleblower: "Willie Whitelaw, a chairman of the Conservative Part, was named as a leading Satanist by self-confessed Satanist, Derry Mainwaring Knight, at Maidstone Crown Court in 1986. As usual, nothing was done about it. Mainwaring-Knight lived near East Grinstead, one of the centres of Satanism in England." (4)Is it possible that Derry Mainwaring Knight really did practice Satanism with high-level politicians, when he wasn't scamming churchgoers? No. The fact that he had to manufacture Satanic paraphernalia in order to destroy it indicates he didn't have access to any real stuff. At one point he claimed to be a member of the Ordo Templi Orientis, an occult organization, but this wasn't verified. That's probably why he chose not to mention the OTO at his trial. There is no known Satanic group called Sons of Lucifer, and no grand Satanic temple exists in Pall Mall. "Nothing was done" about his courtroom accusations against Whitelaw simply because no one, barring a country vicar and a few Charismatic believers, found his tales remotely credible.Due to the prominence of Knight's victims and the sheer wackiness of his scam, the outcome of his trial was covered by all the major English daily newspapers. The affair should have staunched the spread of Satanic panic in the UK, but sadly it did not. Stories of former Satanists and ritual abuse survivors, which were every bit as spurious as Knight's Sons of Lucifer nonsense, continued to flow through the media like a diseased river, polluting minds and sweeping innocent people into whirlpools of persecution.Sources1. In his 2002 book Reinventing Jesus Christ: The New Gospel Warren Smith warned evangelicals that the New Age leaders had come out with a global "peace" plan after the September 11th crisis. This is a theme which Smith further developed in his 2004 book" Deceived on Purpose: The New Age Implications of the Purpose-Driven Church," where he examined Rick Warren's global P.E.A.C.E. Plan, and expressed concern about its overlapping similarities to the New Age "peace" plan.Smith expands this theme in much greater detail in the recent Chapter Updates to "Reinventing Jesus Christ" which are now posted online. Today's excerpt comes from the Update to Chapter 6. The Update to the original chapter, which described the formation of the Global Renaissance Alliance, reveals that this group has now re-made itself, and has boldly changed its name to the PEACE ALLIANCE:"SPIRITUAL POLITICSIn co-founding the Global Renaissance Alliance - recently renamed the Peace Alliance - Neale Donald Walsch and Marianne Williamson were greatly inspired by a book entitled "Spiritual Politics". In fact, both of their enthusiastic endorsements are featured on the front and back covers of this radical 1994 New Age political primer. Neale Donald Walsch's front cover endorsement reads:Extraordinary and invaluable.... One of the most important books to appear in the marketplace of ideas in a very long time.(1)Corinne McLaughlin and Gordon Davidson, the co-authors of "Spiritual Politics", frankly admit that their book is based on the "ageless wisdom" that has been passed down through the years from ancient occultists to modern-day occultists. McLaughlin and Davidson openly embrace this "ageless wisdom." The almost encyclopedic New Age teachings of Alice Bailey are referred to throughout their book. Bailey's teachings were "telepathically" dictated to her by the Tibetan master Djwhal Khul - a spirit guide also known as DK. The spiritual teachings transmitted to Bailey by DK describe the soon coming of a New Age "Christ" and the establishment of a one-world government. The "Christ" described by DK and Bailey is Maitreya - the same Maitreya described by Benjamin Creme and Wayne Peterson. McLaughlin and Davidson dedicate "Spiritual Politics To M and DK":To M and DKand to all the Warriors of the Spirit, that they may awaken to the fire in their heartsand hear the inner anthem calling themto the Great Work.(2)Thus, it is very revealing that Williamson and Walsch have so openly endorsed a book that is steeped in the occultic teachings of Alice Bailey - teachings that proclaim Maitreya, not Jesus, as "the Christ." Williamson's back cover endorsement of "Spiritual Politics" reads:Bravo to Corinne and Gordon for shining such a bright light on politics in this groundbreaking book! Spiritual Politics gives us the instructional wisdom of the East and West, as well as the practical tools for helping create effective change in the world. I highly recommend it.(3)But Williamson's endorsement is very misleading. "Spiritual Politics" is not based on anything resembling the "wisdom of the West" which most people associate with Christianity. McLaughlin and Davidson are very clear that "Spiritual Politics" is based on the hidden, "ageless wisdom" of the occult - the occult traditions that originated with Hermes Trismegistus and culminated in the mystical/New Age teachings of Alice Bailey. In Spiritual Politics they write:For centuries, the Ageless Wisdom in the West was shielded from an unprepared public.... The unveiled truths were handed down only orally by individual teachers to tested disciples or by certain religious groups and secret societies, such as the Kabbalists, Druids, Essenes, Sufis, Knights Templar, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, and others who carefully guarded the teachings down through the centuries. A study of these secret societies would reveal powerful influences on the history of nations....Over the last hundred years, the Ageless Wisdom has spread widely in the West, beginning with the work of the Russian Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Her seminal book, The Secret Doctrine, published in 1888, synthesized Christian, Jewish, and Islamic mysticism with the Eastern teachings of Hinduism, Taoism, and Buddhism, showing their common roots and comparing their sacred texts....The next development came through the teachings of an Englishwoman, Alice Bailey, a former member of the Theosophical Society. In 1919 Bailey was contacted by a Tibetan master, Djwhal Khul, who asked her to write a series of books with him telepathically that would continue Blavatsky's work. Over a period of thirty years, Bailey received eighteen books from him on the nature of the cosmos and the human being, outlining principles for individual spiritual growth and humanity's next evolutionary steps. In 1923 Bailey founded Lucis Trust [originally called Lucifer Publishing, ed.] to bring the teachings in her books to the public. A year later she began the Arcane School. The books were written to apply to several levels of consciousness at once and thus can be read by both beginners and advanced students. Her works have been especially helpful to the two of us in our own spiritual growth and have provided much of the inspiration for Spiritual Politics.(4)Because McLaughlin and Davidson so strongly endorse the Bailey teachings on the politics of a coming New Age "Christ," the spiritual foundation of the Global Renaissance Alliance became very transparent as Williamson and Walsch both endorsed their book. There is nothing subtle about "Spiritual Politics" and there is nothing subtle about the "spiritual politics" of Williamson and Walsch and their Global Renaissance Alliance."The rest of this Update to Chapter 6 notes the "high profile New Age leaders" who have hobnobbed with "well-known politicians" in their spiritual politics plan for "peace."Interestingly, Tamara Hartzell, in her new online book "In the Name of Purpose: Sacrificing Truth at the Altar of Unity", devotes an entire chapter to this same New Age "peace" plan. Chapter 15 contains many actual excerpts from the writings of Alice Bailey and her spirit guide, Djwhal Khul, the same "DK" referred to above who inspired the writing of "Spiritual Politics". These quotations describe the "plan" to create a global "peace" by building a "kingdom" of "world servers." This Luciferian plan, demonically transmitted to the Theosophists a century ago, bears remarkable resemblance to today's various "peace" plans. We excerpt with permission from Hartzell's commentary and excellent compilation of Theosophical writings:"Our enemies in the Angel of light's realm have been working long and hard at fulfilling his Plan. They are achieving marked success in enticing the world into his counterfeit kingdom and its (New Age) New Spirituality that appears as "light" and "peace." As mentioned earlier (see page 86), Alice Bailey (A.A.B.) was approached by the spirit world to detail "the Plan" in writing. These writings are the basis for the descriptions of this counterfeit kingdom "of God" and its Plan to use world service to bring interfaith unity and "peace" to the world. As is to be expected, these enemies commonly twist Scripture after the pattern of the father of lies, who has been twisting God's Word since the Garden of Eden. Also not surprisingly, their deceptions twist the nature and work of the Lord Jesus Christ and reveal an ongoing hatred for His true followers and Word."I [Djwhal Khul]... have a vision of the Plan... Through the cooperation of A.A.B. I put this plan - as far as was possible - before you, calling your attention to the New Group of World Servers...."[T]he vision is a vision of group work, of group relationships, of group objectives, and of the group fusion to the larger Whole." -Alice Bailey ">1"[T]here is a group of human beings, integrating now... upon whom is laid the burden of leading humanity. They are starting movements that have in them the new vibration, they are saying things that are universal in their tone, they are enunciating principles that are cosmic, they are inclusive and not exclusive, they do not care what terminology a man uses; they insist that a man shall keep his own inner structure of truth to himself and not impose it on any one else... they demonstrate the universal light, they are servers..."[T]hey are tied by no dogmas or doctrines because they have the word which has come to them in the dark, which they have wrought out for themselves in the strife and stress of their own souls. They meet the need of their fellow men, and theirs is the message of Christ, 'A new commandment I give you that you love one another.'..."'A new commandment I give you' can be summed up in INCLUSIVENESS, THE HALLMARK OF THE NEW AGE, the universal spirit, identification, oneness with all your fellowmen...."How shall we fit ourselves to meet that requirement, to possess those characteristics which automatically put us into the group of world servers? You will never get there by talking about it... You will get there by doing the next thing correctly." -Alice Bailey ">2The desire for people to stop talking and debating and just start doing and cooperating facilitates interfaith unity among all beliefs and religions. This is exactly what the spirit world has been working toward. In the name of purpose, people are being lured away from doctrine to focus on relationships."He ['Christ'] emphasized the necessity for cooperation, indicating that if we truly follow the Way, WE SHALL PUT AN END TO COMPETITION, AND SUBSTITUTE FOR IT COOPERATION...."Love, brotherhood, cooperation, service, self-sacrifice, INCLUSIVENESS, FREEDOM FROM DOCTRINE, recognition of divinity - these are the characteristics of the citizen of the kingdom, and these still remain our ideals." -Alice Bailey (Emphasis added)3"As the Members of the Hierarchy [spirit realm] approach closer to us, the dream of brotherhood, of fellowship, of WORLD COOPERATION AND OF A PEACE (BASED UPON RIGHT HUMAN RELATIONS) becomes clearer in our minds. As They draw nearer we vision a new and vital world religion, a universal faith, at-one in its basic idealism with the past but different in its mode of expression." -Alice Bailey emphasis added)4"It is time that the church woke up to its true mission, which is to materialize the kingdom of God on earth, today, here and now.... People are no longer interested in a possible heavenly state or a probable hell. They need to learn that THE KINGDOM IS HERE, AND MUST EXPRESS ITSELF ON EARTH THE WAY INTO THAT KINGDOM IS THE WAY THAT CHRIST TROD. IT INVOLVES THE SACRIFICE OF THE PERSONAL SELF FOR THE GOOD OF THE WORLD, AND THE SERVICE OF HUMANITY " -Alice Bailey (Emphasis added)5"Christ died in order to bring to our notice that THE WAY INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD WAS THE WAY OF LOVE AND OF SERVICE. He served and loved and wrought miracles, and gathered together the poor and the hungry." -Alice Bailey (Emphasis added)6"THE TRUTH:"Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon." (Jeremiah 27:9)In our current era of proliferating, and remarkably coinciding, global "peace" plans -- and as we watch a new harlot Babylon unfolding before our very eyes -- it is wise to consider the wisdom of Matthew Poole, circa 1600, in his "Commentary on the Holy Bible" (Hendrickson). Pertaining to this verse, he warned:It is uncertain whether these words were part of the message which Jeremiah by command from God sent to the kings above mentioned, or the prophet's words to the Jews; for as those pagan nations had "diviners, dreamers, enchanters", and "sorcerers", so the Jews had them also, Isaiah 47:12-13: the meaning is, Hearken to none of them that pretend as from God to foretell your escape from this judgment, and not being brought into servitude to the king of Babylon, for you shall serve the king of Babylon. By "prophets" he means such as pretended to some Divine revelations. By" diviners" he means soothsayers, of which were several sorts. By "dreamers", such as pretend to revelations in their sleep. By" enchanters" and "sorcerers", he means their astrologers, and such as used necromancy, or by any unlawful ways and means pretended to know the mind and will of God. (Vol 2, p. 577)

>Wicca, the Gardenarian witchcraft religion.Or are you using wicca as a generic term for the craft in general? I would not dismiss Chaos magic either.I know for a fact it gets the job done As far as terminology goes, Wicca to me is a particular neopagan belief-system; Paganism is any one (or more) of belief-systems, blended or individually, Witchcraft or being a witch is a lifestyle choice, whilst when I'm working magic I'm specifically a Magician, on top of being any of the above. I am *only* a magician when I work magic. (Sleight-of-hand and optical illusion is conjuring, not magic). Being a Magician comes in many stripes, from so-called "primitive" shamanic style practices through to CM and even the High Magic (Theurgy) of the Eucarist. Nisaba
